ORBITA 2415

The Orbita 2415 represent the second generation of Soviet automatic movements. The Orbita (Орбита) was launched in 1962, followed by the Kosmos (Космос) in 1963 with a 2416 automatic movement including a date function. The movements are highly similar, distinguished only by the date addition to the Kosmos (and, therefore, a slight difference in thickness: 3.9mm vs 4.5mm)

The next generation of automatic movements were a complete redesign from the ground up. These movements are significantly thinner. In order to achieve world-class thinness, the gear train and auto-winding mechanics were build into the same plane. This meant only the winding rotor rose above the top plates, leading to an exceptionally thin design. These movements were also the first to introduce bi-directional winding.
